Old Tom was the defining gin of the Gin Palace era — a time of opulence, mirrored interiors, and glowing gaslight during the reign of Queen Victoria.

With the addition of sugar and spices, it became the preferred style of its day — softer, richer, and more approachable. It was also among the first gins to embrace marketing and carry a registered trademark, marking the beginning of gin as we know it today.

Once enjoyed neat in the grand Victorian “palaces”, Old Tom would eventually give way to the drier London Dry style — but its legacy remains.
